Volunteer Needs

There’s no end to the energy our volunteers have for young people!
There are endless stories of volunteers who “just clicked” with one of
the kids and then played a key role in helping turn that child’s life around.

We have a few programs for which we consistently need volunteers. Even
if you can only spend one day a month, our young people need as many supporters in their corner as possible. Your presence in a child’s life could be the ever-so-slight turn of the rudder needed to steer him in a life-transforming direction.

Tutoring...
Tutoring is an excellent way for volunteers interested in committing two hours a week to become familiar with Building Bridges. The tutoring sites are all supervised by staff so new volunteers can readily ask for help.
We need people who can work one-on-one with a child, help with homework and remedial lessons. You do not need to be a professional teacher or counselor…you just need to have patience, compassion and words of encouragement.

Friends & Mentors...
Our youth have many people trying to keep them on the straight and narrow. Although the kids need authority figures, sometimes they just need a friend who is a positive influence, someone to talk to, laugh and hang out with.

There are ample opportunities to interact with our young people on
special days, as well, such as their birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
You may “adopt” a Building Bridges participant to interact with and provide gifts for on special occasions.

Volunteering as a friend or mentor at Building Bridges allows you to determine how much time you’re comfortable committing. Possibilities
are endless…friends have been known to go out to eat, see movies, roller blade, or just talk.

Event Support...
Building Bridges runs of variety of events designed to give our kids time with positive adult role models, as well as an opportunity to succeed at something challenging. Whether a 5k run/walk, a biathlon, a canoeing or whitewater rafting trip, event support is perfect for a volunteer who wants to learn more about Building Bridges before committing to a more full-time activity.
