Who We Are
Vision Statement...
To leave no child in our community behind by providing
a variety of programs and services that allow all participants
in the program to return to our community as productive
members of society.
Mission Statement...
To act as a “safety net” for troubled
and misguided youth who have been unsuccessful in
traditional court-sponsored programs and are deemed
unsalvageable by society by intervening in and redirecting
their lives through residential and non-residential
programs that offer discipline, structure, and opportunity
in a genuinely caring and loving environment.
Overview...
Building Bridges is an intensive rehabilitation program
for at-risk youth between 9-18 years of age who have
not responded to more traditional forms of probation
and supervision. There are the kids other organizations
have given up on. They’re the toughest of the
tough kids.
The idea behind Building Bridges is simple. Instead
of counseling kids from across a desk, Building Bridges
creates real-life, hand-on experiences for young people
in which they are likely to succeed. As their successes
add up, the kids begin to build self-esteem, something
most of them – despite their street tough exteriors
– are sorely lacking.
The staff and volunteers at Building Bridges work
to develop one-on-one relationships with each child.
Youth are asked to set attainable goals for managing
family relationships, improving social skills and
elevating school performance. This hands-on, relationship-centered
approach accounts for the program’s unprecedented
90% success rate. By simply showing young people they
have worth, 90 out of 100 of them will stay out of
jail.
